10 Times Championships Were DISRESPECTED in Wrestling! (WWE & AEW)

[Music] pro-wrestling is defined by the titles that people hold when you try to masquerade something as a sport that people need to have something to fight for her wrestling took the hint from boxing and started unveiling World titles and their promotions without the original course titles have become the part and parcel of wrestling in every single superstar that has left even a slight mark in the wrestling business has won some title or the other in the wrestling career titles are used to build a legacy of a wrestler because the title itself has a rich legacy of its own winning the title means becoming a part of the history books and etching your name on the legacy of your title although you don’t want to be one of the names that are remembered in the destruction of a titles legacy while destruction may be a bit of I believe there have been plenty of examples in wrestling history where titles have been completely disrespected and sometimes irreversibly damaged the reputation of it this is wrestling now but today we are talking about ten times championships were disrespected in wrestling we start with the latest example of disrespect shown to a title maybe losing the New World title of your promotion a day after winning it gets you addicted to a little bit of the bubbly so you can drink to forget the massive screw-up you just made Chris Jericho is one of the biggest stars in wrestling even though he is thirty years into his career he cemented his position as a main eventer 2019 by becoming the aew world champion by defeating adam hangman paid maybe it isn’t the best move to lose your title with day after winning it a world title is supposed to be coveted I think you never let out of your sight let alone misplace it Jirka left the aew title in a limousine when he went to eat a longhorn steak house it’s expected to leave things in your car accidentally like a file or a bag it’s inconvenient just imagine losing a diamond-encrusted title which you want to establish your upstart promotion as a legitimate threat to WWE yikes while the iconic moment is the visual of Austin chucking the title in the river people tend to gloss over the systemic humiliation of the Intercontinental Championship before Austin threw it in the river Austin was a rising star it was poised for world title success but still served as the icy champion he had to drop the belts if fellow upstart Rocky Maivia while making the jump to the main event however Debbie Debbie we did not want Austin to lose to Rocky so they played in this segment Austin comes to the ring and tells everyone that he is moving on to better things and then he proceeds to hand rocky the title and says he’s champion if a champion saying that he doesn’t need that title and giving it to a rival out of apathy isn’t disrespectful maybe what he does next is Austin then stunned the new champion and took off the title tossing it over a bridge and into the river the title that Austin had been defending up until now was just discarded like it’s nothing and it still doesn’t make any sense it is well established that WCW from 1999 to 2001 was an actual trainwreck which took all of his viewers as casualties try to watch episodes of Monday nitro from this time and let us know if you feel the need to gouge your eyes out the show wasn’t over booked mess I am not exaggerating when I say that this was absolutely unwatchable think Ron November 2018 but a million times worse one of the things that became a casualty of the self-destruction of WCW was the big gold belt although Dibby Dibby we did beautifully bring back relevance to it in the early 2000s with Triple H on Raw WCW did everything to try and ruin it nothing exemplifies this more than the nearly 40 tidal switches in the dying years this began after Kevin Nash ended Goldberg’s time as an undefeated champion analyzed until Booker T became the final champion of the company’s history 39 champions in 27 months that’s really all we can say [Music] this is one of these sadder title demises in recent memory but everything that WWE did to the ECW title can be termed as disrespectful this lasted till it’s very into 2010 when Ezekiel Jackson became the final champion in the titles history by defeating the well respected Christian for it even Tommy Dreamer was on the main roster at the time so that may have been a more respectful ending apart from this the title was really doomed from the start be at the defensive hit in the extreme elimination chamber or the reigns that the likes of Vince McMahon had while we get some good moments out of it primarily the title reins of CM Punk Christian and Matt Hardy everything else that this title did serve to ruin the legacy of ECW the European Championship was having a hard time being relevant in WWE as a tertiary title you couldn’t really even call it a mid car belt as the IC title was serving that purpose but it had electric moments especially in the grasp of the British bulldog you can safely say that Shawn Michaels was probably the worst thing that happened to the title if his backstage politicking to beat a European in Europe for the European title wasn’t disrespectful enough this donta title defense he put on against Triple H truly was Michaels hadn’t lost a match in over a year and he had lost title matches over three times in the last five years before this moment while feeding with Commissioner slaughter Michaels and Triple H were booked to face each other for Michael’s European title they would work around this by having a fake fight which ended with Triple H eating a splash with zero impact to pin Michaels for a funny title victory it was a disgrace and nothing short of an insult to everyone who had held that title and accomplished something with it [Music] our next two entries were deliberate attempts at disrespect towards a title in order for a character to build heat this duo starts with a recent addition to this list in late 2018 Daniel Bryan shocked the world by turning heel and ending a j-style says story 36 5 day + reign as WWE Champion to go completely into his heel persona Bryan decided to embrace his vegan and preachy side to inform the WWE Universe that were killing the planet to completely embrace this character Bryan threw the WWE title away in this move was shocking as the title was completely trashed by Bryan he dismissed the leather and diamonds of the regal title for a title made out of hemp and wood while Styles wondered aloud if Bryan had been smoking that title the rest of the world lost in shock at what Bryan did the original title was restored after Kofi Kingston defeated Bryan at WrestleMania 35 [Music] despite being a former AWA world and tag team champion a former WWF IC champion and a former WCW US Champion Curt Hennig or mr. perfect won a lot in wrestling the one thing he never was able to win was the WWE title in a long career which ended with perfect death in 2003 the closest he got to the title was this iconic moment which was considered the ultimate heal move in 1989 perfect took a hammer and smashed up the perennial babyface Hulk Hogan’s WWE Championship after Hogan shockingly lost a genius due to count-out by a perfect interference the pair ran off with Hogan’s WWE title perfect would smash it into a thousand pieces when we look at this moment today it is considered a high act of treason against the WWE title the ativy we never truly figured out how to bookie cruiserweight division while two and five live has been doing pretty well under the stewardship of Triple H the division from earlier decades didn’t fare too well the WWE light heavyweight title division was supposed to battle WCW cruiserweight division but failed to take off its death knell would come when perennial job or Gilberg managed to win the title poetically the cruiserweight championship had a similar fate in WWE the old cruiserweight titled that WWE used for their purchase of WCW was a different belt but retained a lot of these similar talent that’s handle fared well compared to the light heavyweight but when your most notable champion was Gregory Helms it says a lot about your division the cruiserweights division truly met its end after Hornswoggle Championship victory the division was killed after the victory and was the most obvious sign of Dibby Dibby not caring for the title to title reigns that actually came to be during the affirmation 39 title switches in two years Vince Russo and David Arquette becoming champions is actually mind-boggling at least usually world titles were reserved for the people that actually wrestle for a living in this situation one man was the head booker and the other was an actor these two title reigns truly exemplified the deadly big gold belt in WCW no matter what any champion after them did we can blame Russo for both these mistakes I don’t need to go into how stupid it is for a Booker to book himself as champion with the decision have Arquette win that choice has often been called a monumentally damaging blow to a company that was already at death’s door the decision have R Kent as a champion has been universally dogged on and considered the moment that essentially ruined WCW as a brand forever [Music] we end our list with another attempt to generate he’ll he by disrespecting a title however the execution of this moment was pure mastery what alundra blayze or Medusa did and WCW is considered to be one of the most iconic moments in the history of wrestling Medusa was the WWF Women’s Champion at the time of remove from WWF to WCW deciding to bring the title that she won over to nitro and then dump it into a trash can on live TV disrespecting the title at the highest level the paranoia that this moment left in the WWE was absolutely enormous this moment was one of the key factors as to why the Montreal Screwjob happened this move essentially killed WWE’s women’s division for many years what a laundry blaze did is Medusa on WCW nitro will go down in history and be remembered as one of the most infamous moments of the Monday Night Wars and something that not only killed a title but an entire division and these were 10 x titles were disrespected and Pro Wrestling I hope you’re all having a great day thank you so much for watching and I will see you later in the next video [Music]
